Refusing to Choose Between Animals and People

With human-wildlife conflict on the rise, how do we create safe spaces for animals while supporting local livelihoods?

2025 McNulty Prize Winner Dr. Krithi K. Karanth, CEO of Centre for Wildlife Studies, (Kamalnayan Bajaj Fellowship) is tackling this challenge head-on by resolving conflicts, partnering with farmers to grow crops that deter wildlife yet remain profitable, and inspiring the next generation to coexist with animals.

Having impacted millions across 7,000 villages in India, her team is now expanding to 100 new parks—and looking to share this model across continents to help both people and wildlife thrive on a global scale.
