Working for People Over Power

What happens if you put the most promising leaders of a generation in a room together?

2025 McNulty Prize Winner Layla Zaidane, President and CEO of Future Caucus (Civil Society & Ascend Fellow), is answering that question by building the largest nonpartisan network of young lawmakers in the U.S. Through Future Caucus, she’s connecting over 1,900 millennial and Gen Z elected officials across 34 state legislatures and Congress—at a time of historically high political polarization.

The organization equips young lawmakers with tools for relationship-building, research, and storytelling to help them prioritize constituent demands and deliver results.

In 2024, 100% of Future Caucus candidates won reelection, and while young legislators made up just 25% of lawmakers last session, they were behind 40% of bipartisan bills signed into law. With support from the McNulty Prize, Future Caucus is poised to reach even more young lawmakers—helping a new generation lead with courage, collaboration, and impact.
