Launched in 2017, the annual Aspen Leadership Forum on Retirement Savings brings together leaders from industry, government, consumer advocacy, academia, and more to grapple with the issues that have prevented the United States from building the inclusive, adequate savings system necessary to achieve retirement security for all.
The ultimate goal of the Forum is to accelerate convergence on critical dimensions of policy and marketplace innovation that will enable all workers in America to meaningfully participate in a retirement savings system that builds financial security. The scope of these issues, and their profound impacts on American households’ financial security and well-being, makes it all the more urgent to bring together a diverse group of powerful voices to chart the way forward. For its ninth consecutive year, the Aspen Leadership Forum on Retirement Savings served as the premier venue for this critical dialogue.
Driving Questions
The 2025 Forum tackled a number of complex questions, including:
- Is our society making the right investments in our retirement savings system—and are the “returns” of that investment accruing to people and to our society in the ways Americans need?
- Can we bridge the divide between the design of the retirement savings system and the rapidly evolving needs of a workforce that is living longer, working more jobs for less time, and—in the long run—shrinking due to falling fertility rates?
- What does the confluence of the digitization and automation of our financial lives, AI, digital identity, and blockchain mean for the future of retirement savings outcomes?
- How does the growing unaffordability of other assets that are key to wealth building in America shape what Americans need and want from the retirement savings system?
