The United States can remain an international leader in science by embracing openness and collaboration.

This report explores barriers to open access and ways to overcome unequal wealth, technology access, and education across countries to promote the benefits of scientific research.

This October, the Aspen Institute Science & Society Program, in collaboration with the Centre for Global Science and Epistemic Justice, hosted a groundbreaking webinar featuring experts from China and the United Kingdom who discussed efforts to combat science denial, propaganda, and disinformation in their country in the current “Post-Truth” era. The event coincided with the release of a Mandarin-language version of INFODEMIC: Global Conversations on Science and Disinformation, a short-form documentary series produced by the Science & Society Program in 2021. 

Our report and accompanying events on pure science, in collaboration with the 13 other countries where the Aspen Institute has international partners, assesses the current state of basic science around the world, creates a forum for discussion among scientific leaders, and provides guidance on how basic science can be supported and advanced internationally.

The groundbreaking concept of transforming science into a universal methodology for both humanity and the planet—to address current challenges, offer solutions, and proactively avert future global issues—is now progressing via a robust, worldwide initiative known as “Open Science.”

This congress gathered 100 thought leaders from over 50 countries actively working locally and globally on implementing scientific and rational approaches to policymaking and education, with focus on vaccines, climate change, medicine, and food biotechnologies.

This documentary series on PBS, satellite television, and streaming features the perspectives of leading science experts from Japan, China, Philippines, India, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Germany, Italy, France, Brazil, and the United States to speak about science denial in a “post-truth” era, climate change, disinformation, propaganda, the paranormal, and natural disasters.

These insights, contributed by members of the Aspen Global Congress on Scientific Thinking & Action, offer local experts’ best practices for communicating about a global health crisis with the public in nuanced and regionally specific ways.

The event coincided with the release of a Ukrainian-language version of INFODEMIC: Global Conversations on Science and Disinformation, a short-form documentary series produced by the Science & Society Program in 2021. 

In this virtual public webinar, we will discuss how Ukraine’s research community and government agencies are progressing and producing success stories in an extremely challenging environment.
